The past year I have been working with a remarkable gentleman who is 79 years old; a brilliant lawyer, ferocious reader, lover of his family and all things art , travel and food. My role has been to help him to sustain a healthy lifestyle so he is able to enjoy all the things he loves to do.
One of the most challenging tasks has been to part with the books he has already read, and there are hundreds. We have been donating almost a box of books a week to Friends of the Library in San Francisco. This is a daunting and draining process but it is important so that he is able to remain in his space as continues to age. His children live in the bay area as well but have very busy lives and children of their own so we are keeping them in mind as we continue to tackle this task.
The book “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to Free Yourself and Your Family from a Lifetime of Clutter” by Margareta Magnusson is a concise read on the subject, less is better for all.
